The role

Establish and lead the revenue function and the operational backbone that turns a profitable founder-led company into one that can scale. This role sits at the intersection of revenue generation and operational discipline, and the person in it is the founder's direct partner in the business.

A day in the life

A composite day: the work is real, the timing is imagined, and no two days here look alike.

  1. Cash before coffee

The bank feeds came in overnight. You roll yesterday's subscription revenue into the 13-week cash forecast, and the runway line moves the right way. It takes ten minutes because you built the model last month.

  2. Discovery with a community college

Their workforce dean wants certification prep for a cohort of students. Twenty minutes in, you learn the money sits with the grant office, not the dean. You book the grant office for Thursday.

  3. Two hundred security questions

An enterprise buyer sent its vendor questionnaire. Claude drafts first answers from the trust packet you wrote; you check every one, fix six, and flag three for the founder.

  4. Lunch, away from the desk

    Actually away from it.

  5. The pilot readout

A corporate training customer finished a 60-day pilot. Their learners kept studying after the pilot ended, which is the number that matters. You walk their sponsor from pilot to annual contract.

  6. Redlines

A school district wants changes to the data processing addendum. You and outside counsel agree on two, push back on one, and send it back the same afternoon.

  7. Budget against actual

Paid search is running ahead of plan. You don't cut it; you message the Marketing Director to ask what it's buying, because the answer decides next month.

  8. Write it down

Three lines to the founder: what moved, what's stuck, what you need. Then you're done.

What you would own

  • The institutional pipeline across four buyers launching together — corporate training, higher education, K–12, and the recruiter marketplace.
  • The full sales motion: prospecting, discovery, demos, pilots, contracts, renewals, expansion.
  • Contract templates, MSAs, DPAs, order forms, and the security and procurement reviews institutional buyers will run you through.
  • The financial reporting cadence — monthly close, P&L, cash flow, runway projections, and the budget-versus-actual discipline behind them.
  • The operational infrastructure a growing company needs: payroll, benefits administration, banking, AR/AP, and corporate governance with outside counsel.

What we are looking for

  • Seven or more years spanning at least two of: enterprise SaaS sales, marketplace business development, finance and FP&A, or business operations.
  • A track record closing enterprise SaaS contracts in the $50,000–$500,000 range.
  • Real financial literacy — you build and maintain the model yourself.
  • Comfort in high-ambiguity, founder-led environments where the role's shape changes as the company does.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted workflows. This is not optional here; it is how the work gets done.

Helpful, not required

  • Series-A-to-B revenue or operations leadership.
  • Education technology, certification ecosystems, or compliance training.
  • CPA, CMA, or a comparable finance credential.
  • Two-sided marketplace economics.
